Abstract:This paper studies water supply systems, awareness about water use and conservation in 247 rural households selected from Sagar district using random sampling. Findings indicate that actual water consumption in these rural households significantly exceeds guideline estimates. Factors such as income level, education and family size significantly influence the implementation of water-saving behaviors. There is a positive relationship between water conservation behavior and socio-economic factors. In addition to addressing the psychological and socio-economic factors of rural households, more efforts are needed to address financial incentives, water conservation technology education and behavioral changes in water use.
