Abstract: Rapid urbanization in the twenty-first century is shaped by technological advancements, demographic transitions, environmental challenges and shifting social norms. This paper examines the sociological dimensions of urban transformation by integrating classical urban theory with contemporary planning frameworks. It focuses on urban morphology, border dynamics, migration and restructuring of the social forces like de-tribalization and re-stabilization. Drawing from foundational urban sociological theories and the subsequent contemporary shifts, this study highlights models of planning like 15- minutes city and 8 to 80 principle. The research conducts a case study of Ahmedabad city in India, to provide an empirical framework for theoretical findings and demonstrate how infrastructure-led development, migration and governance systems concurrently foster urban expansion and reproduce socio-spatial inequities(Mahadevia, 2014; Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, 2023).
This paper further argues, that sustainable urban future would demand people-centered, inclusive and integrated approaches which would be embedded in social equity, ecological resilience and contextual design.
