Abstract: The rapid digital transformation of global societies has significantly increased reliance on information and communication technologies, thereby expanding the scope and complexity of cybercrime. Cybercriminal activities have evolved from basic hacking and identity theft to sophisticated operations such as ransomware attacks, cryptojacking, cloud exploitation, and IoT-based intrusions. This paper examines the emerging patterns of cybercrime in the contemporary digital ecosystem and analyses the factors contributing to their growth. Through a review of existing literature, the study highlights technological vulnerabilities, human behavioural weaknesses, and regulatory gaps that facilitate cybercriminal activities. The paper further explores preventive strategies including technological safeguards, cybersecurity awareness, legislative reforms, and international cooperation. It concludes that a comprehensive, multi-layered, and collaborative approach is essential to effectively combat modern cyber threats and ensure digital security.
