Abstract: Industrial
development is an essential component of regional economic growth, generating
employment opportunities, infrastructure, and technological advancement.
However, rapid industrial expansion often leads to significant environmental
degradation if adequate environmental safeguards are not implemented. The
present study examines the environmental effects of industrial development in
selected industrial regions of Bilaspur District. The research focuses on major
environmental concerns, including air pollution, water pollution, soil
degradation, noise pollution, solid waste generation, reduction in green cover,
and health-related problems experienced by nearby communities. The study is
based on primary data collected from 400 respondents residing in villages
located near industrial establishments. A structured questionnaire based on a
five-point Likert scale was used to assess public perception regarding
environmental impacts. The findings indicate that industrial activities have
considerably affected environmental quality, with respondents expressing
serious concerns regarding deteriorating air and water quality, increasing
industrial waste, declining vegetation, and growing health issues. The study
concludes that sustainable industrial development requires strict
implementation of environmental regulations, continuous monitoring, adoption of
cleaner technologies, effective waste management, and community participation
to minimize ecological degradation while maintaining economic growth.
