Abstract:Domestic interior
design products are purchased through a decision process that is more complex
than the purchase of many routine consumer goods because the decision involves
functional requirements, aesthetic preferences, budget constraints, social
visibility, perceived quality and long-term use. This paper examines the
principal factors that influence consumers at the five commonly recognised
stages of decision-making: problem recognition, information search, evaluation
of alternatives, purchase decision and post-purchase behaviour. The study
adopts a descriptive and conceptual research design based on secondary
literature in consumer behaviour and marketing. The analysis indicates that
personal needs, family and social influence, cultural preferences, product
attributes, brand image, price-value perceptions, digital information sources,
retailer or designer interaction, convenience and post-purchase support may
operate differently across the stages of the decision process. In the context
of domestic interiors, the importance of the home as an expression of lifestyle
and identity also makes symbolic and social considerations relevant. The paper
does not claim statistically significant effects because no primary dataset or
inferential test results are available in the present study record. Instead, it
develops a stage-wise framework that can guide future empirical research and
help interior-product marketers, retailers and designers understand how
consumer needs are translated into final purchase and satisfaction outcomes.
